Two of the greatest shot putters in the world are set to face off once again, this time in New York.

World Athletics recently announced that Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs will square off in what is shaping up to be an epic battle at the Millrose Games in New York in February. This meet is a part of the World Athletics Indoor World Tour Gold series.

“I’m excited to make a return to the Millrose Games again this year,” Crouser said in the press release. “The meet is always the best meet of the indoor circuit, and always a highlight for me. The shot put has hit new levels the past few years and I see no slowing down for the event. I’m pushing every day to break new ground and I hope to show that at Millrose on February 11.”

Crouser is the greatest shot putter to ever compete in the event. He’s won two Olympic gold medals, a world championship and is the proud owner of the indoor and outdoor shot put world records (23.37 outdoor, 22.82 indoor).

Crouser’s biggest competitor has been his friend Joe Kovacs as of late. Kovacs beat Crouser by the slightest margin to win the title at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, and took home the Diamond League title this past season. He’s ranked No. 2 in history with his personal best throw of 23.23, which was also the top mark of any shot putter this season.

“The Millrose Games is the most historic indoor track meet on US soil,” Kovacs said in the press release. “I am honored to be a part of its 115th year history and excited for the opportunity to make history at this year’s shot put show.”

The Millrose Games will take place at the Armory on February 11. For more information, visit the official website for the event.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
